Sights

Hotel Ratan Vilas is situated in Ratanada, a bustling area with little shops and stores to weave in and out of. The mighty Mehrangarh Fort, and with it the thrilling zip-line point, is around 7KM away. Next to the fort is the rugged Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park which is perfect for an early morning gander around the fort in hunt of desert lakes. The milky-white surface of the Jaswant Thada cenotaph, poised beside an idyllic lake, is a short distance from the Mehrangarh fort too.

The Umaid Bhawan Palace is the other notable building in Jodhpur, though that may be an understatement! A section of it is still home to the Maharajah and his family, whilst a portion of it is now part of the Taj Hotel’s Palace Collection. The museum here is a must see as is the Maharajah’s classic car collection.

If you’re looking forward to experiencing the hustle and bustle of the city, the Sadar Market is a great place to start. It’s an ideal spot for a round of shopping, too! The unmissable Clock Tower, in the center of the bazaar, is also a sight worth seeing- climb to the top to get a panoramic view of the market and the surrounding areas.

Jodhpur is called the Sun City by many because of its almost year-round sunny weather. That said, October to March is the ideal time to visit because of the pleasant temperatures, nippy winter chill and festival celebrations.
The Indian Rupee (INR) is the only currency in Jodhpur, indeed in India. If you would like to exchange foreign currency to Indian Rupees, please contact our front desk as we will be happy to help.
Yes, very! The local people are extremely hospitable. Our hotel staff speaks English and would be delighted to strike up a conversation with you.

About Ratan Vilas

A heritage hotel today, Ratan Vilas was once the private residence of Maharaj Ratan Singh of the formidable Rathore clan, the erstwhile rulers of the Marwar region. The hotel’s architectural style resonates with that of the bygone days, with intricate carvings, criss-cross jaali patterns and a red sandstone exterior.

No- the great-grandson of Maharaj Ratan Singh Brijraj and Brijraj’s wife Namrata Singh are still in-residence in the part of the bungalow that was once the Zenana. They frequently interact with travellers and guests from all over the world and always have a story or two about their history to share.
